Is This The Best Budget Gaming Monitor? Acer Nitro XV272U Review – QHD 144Hz 1ms!

Finding a perfect gaming monitor for all your gaming needs requires a lot of research especially if you’re bounded by a thin wallet like mine. After using the Acer Nitro XV272U Gaming Monitor For around 1 month, I can say that this monitor is probably all you are looking for!

The Acer XV272U offers both responsive performance and stunning image quality without compromises.

Further, it has plenty of useful features, an ergonomic design, and a reasonable price tag. What more do you need?

Image Quality

The Acer Nitro XV272U comes with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 (QHD Screen) Based on an IPS panel by Innolux, Which looks really gorgeous!

the Acer XV272U monitor supports 10-bit color via dithering (8-bit + 2-bit FRC) and covers 95% of the DCI-P3 color gamut (~130% sRGB). However, for 10-bit color, you will have to limit the refresh rate to 120Hz.

This monitor has a pixel density of 108.79 PPI (pixels per inch). which is pretty good for its great screen size of 27 Inches.

The monitor has a decent 1000:1 contrast ratio for an IPS monitor. with 350-nit Peak Brightness and 400-nit for HDR content. This monitor offers an amazing viewing angle of 178 Degrees.

Design & Connectivity

The Acer XV272U IPS monitor has an ergonomic stand with up to 120mm height adjustment, -5°/20° tilt, 90° pivot, 360° swivel, and VESA mount compatibility. You can literally move it in any direction you want! Also Suitable for coders and programmers who want to keep their monitor vertical.

Connectivity options include two HDMI 2.0 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4 port, a quad-USB 3.0 hub, an audio jack for the 2x2W speakers, and a headphones jack. FreeSync works over both HDMI and DP for AMD cards, and over DP for NVIDIA cards.

Overall This monitor provides great connectivity options and has a great Design and ergonomics suitable for all types of users.

Performance

When it comes to performance this thing is a beast! The Acer Nitro XV272U 144Hz gaming monitor supports AMD FreeSync with a 48-144Hz variable refresh rate (VRR) range. With NVIDIA’s 441.66 (or newer) drivers, the Acer XV272U is also certified as G-SYNC compatible by NVIDIA.

(Note that you cannot use both FreeSync/G-SYNC and HDR at the same time.)

You have the option to use the 1ms VRB (Visual Response Boost) technology, which via backlight strobing further decreases motion blur and achieves 1ms response time. VRB has only two options: Normal and Extreme.

This monitor offer a response time of 4ms (GtG) with VRB off which is still decent for an IPS panel with minimal motion blur visible. There are 3 response time overdrive presets (Off, Normal, and Extreme). You cannot use ‘Extreme’ and VRB simultaneously. The monitor at 144hz has a low input lag of ~4ms when Ultra Low Latency is Enabled.

Overall, there were no issues when it comes to the performance; no excessive IPS glow, backlight bleeding, or dead/stuck pixels was spotted. however, very few users have reported about IPS glow, BB and dead pixels on their monitor, so make sure to inspect your monitor as soon as you buy it.

Price & Rival Monitors

The Acer XV272U has an attractive price of $350 which is now available for as low as $299 on Amazon!

At Just $299, This monitor offers a lot of great features and an amazing picture quality which is great for both gamers and content creators. All of its rival monitors (Like – LG 27GL83A) provide slightly better performance with a much higher price tag.

On Amazon, you can also find the Acer Nitro VG271UP (VG271U Pbmiipx), which is the younger brother of this monitor, all the same features, but with a tilt-only stand. Thus a cheaper option if you don’t need a highly adjustable stand or if you are just planning to wall mount the monitor.

Conclusion

After all the research on this monitor and personally using it as my main monitor for almost one month, I can say that at $299 this gaming monitor is a complete beast.
