How to Buy the Perfect Gaming Monitor in Your Budget – Buying Guide 2021

The Process of Choosing the perfect Gaming Monitor from the hundreds of available options in the market can be really difficult, and that too should be in your budget. It is really important to get a good monitor because the monitor is how you see everything that you do. Doesn’t matter if you have a RTX 2080Ti, If your monitor is not good enough, You’re just wasting your money.

Gaming Monitors come in a variety of sizes, shapes, resolutions and with different price tags. Now, the question is how to choose the right one? Let’s see one by one.

What To Look For In A Gaming Monitor :

• Screen Resolution

The first and most important factor to consider is, the screen resolution. The higher the resolution, the better the picture. Screen Resolution tells you about the pixel count of the screen. The higher the pixel density the crispier the image will look.

some of the most common screen resolutions in gaming monitors are:

  • 1080p – Full HD (Minimum)

  • 1440p – QHD or 2K

  • 2160p – UHD or 4K

Now, You may get attracted to those crispy looking 4K screens, but keep in mind the capabilities of your hardware. make sure your GPU can push a Game on high resolution while maintaining decent Frames Per Second.

• Refresh Rate

Refresh rate is the number of times your monitor Refreshes with new images every second. For example, a 60 Hz refresh rate means the display updates 60 times per second.

Refresh Rate also determines how many frames per second the monitor will be able to display. A higher refresh rate results in a smoother picture.

If you are a Gamer you should look for monitors with higher refresh rates like 144Hz or 240Hz for smoother gameplay. The minimum you should do is atleast 75Hz.

But if you want a monitor for casual use, you can settle with 60Hz.

Again, make sure that your GPU can run Games at high FPS that matches your monitor’s Refresh Rate.

• Response Time

Pixel response time is measured in milliseconds (ms) and it represents how much time a single pixel needs to switch from black to white or switch between different shades of gray.

For competitive gamers faster response time is really important. Lower response time will make camera movements smoother and high response time can cause motion blur and ghosting.

Any Response Time between 1ms to 5ms should be good for casual or even hardcore gamers!

• Screen Size

The most common monitor screen sizes are 24 inches, 27 inches and 32 inches. You can choose any of these sizes according to your preference, but you should know that Pixel Density is really important for monitor screen quality. Pixel Density around 100 Pixels Per Inch ( PPI ) should be great!

The sweet spot for 24 inches monitor is 1080p, whereas 1440p for 27 inches and 4K for 32 inches.

• The Panel Technology

This is a little tricky part, There are basically, Three Panel types :

•  TN  –  (Twisted Nematic)

•  VA  –  (Vertical Alignment)

•  IPS  –  (In-Plane Switching)

Now, I could go really deep into their technical aspects but i’ll try to make it really simple to understand.

IPS panels have the best overall Visual Quality and the best Viewing Angles. Whereas VA Panels offer the best color Contrast Ratio and TN panels offer high refresh rates and the fastest response time of 1ms (Although, today many high-end IPS monitors can also go as fast as 1ms).

In Short, Go for a IPS panel if you are a professional content creator and a casual gamer for more vibrant and accurate color reproduction.

Go for a TN panel if you have low budget and want a faster and smoother gaming experience.

VA panel is the middle ground for decent viewing angles, fast screen and picture quality at a pocket friendly price range.

But, If you have a decent budget, I would strongly recommend you to go for an IPS panel for the best overall experience!
